From ComputerClubIndia
Among all the interesting topics, workshops and workouts hosted at Foss.in 2009, a couple of talks and workouts stand relevant to Computer Club India. While Russ's talk captured interest of the audience with an overview of how low cost and simple hardware can be put to use to tackle real life issues, introduction to Blinkenlights at the beginning of Milosch's keynote blew people away! Milosch's keynote emphasized on how software engineers can get going with hardware and how hardware design can be achieved using the same design principles of software design.
Towards the end of his his keynote, Milosch announced that he and Russ will be conducting a workout involving OpenBeacon hardware. During the workout, the team got a hands-on introduction to soldering and learnt several interesting tidbits about hardware programming. By the end of next day, the team successfully programmed OpenBeacon to play Indian National Anthem on a peizo speaker soldered to the OpenBeacon transciever.
Computer Club India:
It was during these workouts that the idea of Computer Club India came up. The basic idea flouted around was that we should have a club that we have a community where solutions including both software and hardware would be worked together and knowledge shared freely. Milosch readily volunteered to book a domain and set up a wiki for us, and thus Computer Club India was born!
Blinkenlights:
Towards the end of the conference, thanks to Milosch and Brita, the team gave away a lot of 'Blinking lights' to the delegates. These were the simplest circuit possible - a tricolor LED connected to a 3.3V button cell. It was so much fun to see folks showing off their Blinking lights on their identity tags!
Here are some pictures of these activities at Foss.in 2009.
