BeagleCarPC
From ComputerClubIndia
3" x 3" formfactor of BeagleBoard makes it very suitable for a lot of applications. The peripheral set that it can support and a very active community porting and maintaining Linux makes it easier to put pieces together and make some cool solutions.
BeagleCarPC is one such solution. Here's a wish list we intend to achieve:
- Physical characteristics
- A double-din touchscreen display connected to a unit that will house the beagleboard and all its peripherals.
- The touchscreen display shall be slidable - when it slides, it exposes a slot-in DVD drive, a USB drive, a SD card reader and audio-in and audio-out.
- Unit shall
- Functionalities:
- A quick boot up to ensure that the user is up and running in no time.
- All user interface viewable without having to strain oneself
- A media player that will play out media from any of the possible interfaces - USB, SD, CD/ DVD media
- A FM player to tune into local radio stations
- A RSS reader that display RSS from user's favourite feeds in a viewable format - a 3' UI?
- A Bluetooth transciever
- Hooks up to the user's phone as he enters the car, diverts all the audio from his calls to the speaker system.
- Lets the user speak without any additional peripherals - software intelligent enough to take his speech and inject into the call.
- A GPS to let him navigate through the lanes of the world
- A weather applet to give live updates of weather
- Sensors to display outside temperature, wind speed
- Car control?
